Houston's flat Gulf Coast yards sit on gumbo clay that stays soggy after thunderstorms, under live oaks and loblolly pines that kill St. Augustine grass, behind cedar fences in brick-veneer homes from the 1920s through the 2020s. Houston Turf Installation has been solving those yards since 2013.
Whether your backyard is a postage-stamp side strip in the Heights, a sprawling Meyerland ranch lot, a River Oaks estate under deep shade, or a new suburban home in a master plan, we install artificial grass that works in Houston's heat, humidity, and drainage challenges. Homeowners in 77002 and across the Houston area call us when the lawn has died, the dog area smells, the turf is lifting at the seams, or the yard needs to be ready for a sale, an event, or a move-in date.
Artificial Grass Installation in Houston (77002)
Houston yards face real challenges. The soil underneath is heavy gumbo clay that holds water after every downpour. If there is no slope or if drainage is broken, water pools and turf rots from below. Full sun exposure on a south or west-facing yard pushes surface heat higher in summer, and the humidity means infill stays damp longer. Many homes sit under mature live oaks and pines that shade the lawn so heavily that even real grass thins and dies. Front yards are governed by HOA architectural rules that specify turf color, pile height, edge treatments, and how much of the yard can be covered. Side yards and patios in townhomes and close-packed neighborhoods have tight access for rolls and base material. Dogs turn yards to mud and create odor problems that real grass cannot solve.
We work in all of it. We specify the turf product, face weight, pile height, and infill type in writing before we start. We grade and slope yards for drainage, install a proper base with compaction, and handle removal of old lawn or failed turf. We manage HOA submittals for front-yard work, coordinate with utility locates, and work in tight spaces where access is tight. Our team has installed residential yards, pet turf and dog runs, putting greens, pool surrounds, patios, balconies, and commercial properties across Houston and the surrounding area since 2013.

How a Job Works in Houston
Step one is a free on-site assessment. We visit your property, measure the area, look at sun exposure and shade, check the slope and drainage, and talk through your goals. If an HOA front-yard submittal is needed, we explain what we will submit and when. If the yard has an old lawn or failed turf, we discuss removal and disposal. We answer your questions about product, cost, and timeline, and we never oversell. If the yard has a water problem, we tell you drainage has to be fixed first or we walk away.
Step two is the installation. We request a Texas 811 utility locate before we excavate for base prep, so underground power, gas, and water lines are marked. We remove the old lawn or turf if needed. We grade the yard for slope and drainage, install a compacted base at the depth required for your turf product, and lay the turf in rolls. In tight side yards and patios in the Heights and EaDo, we work carefully to fit rolls and base material through narrow access. We set edges, secure seams, and add the infill specified in your quote.
Step three is cleanup and walkthrough. We haul away all debris, sweep the turf, and leave your property clean. We walk through with you, answer final questions, and give you care guidance for your new turf.
Artificial grass installation in Houston starts at $8 per square foot for standard residential turf and goes up depending on the product, face weight, infill, and what has to be removed or repaired first. Pet turf for dog runs is typically $10 per square foot. Putting greens start at $15 per square foot. Pool surrounds and patios typically run about $9 to $13 per square foot. A typical 400 square foot backyard (a small side yard or patio) might run $3,200 to $4,000 installed. A 1,000 square foot yard could run $8,000 to $12,000 depending on whether you are removing old turf, fixing drainage, or choosing a premium product. Removal of old turf or sod is priced separately, depending on the site. Repair and seam work start at $350. The main cost factors are the size of the area, the turf product and face weight you choose, the infill type and pounds per square foot, the base depth required, and whether old lawn or turf has to be removed first. Access, slope, and drainage fixes also affect the price. Call us at (346) 202-2866 for a free estimate on your specific property.
